All You Need To Know About Chlamydia Treatment

Chlamydia (kluh-MID-ee-uh) is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by a bacterium called Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia can be treated relatively easily. However, if timely treatment is not provided, it can give rise to more serious disorders such as impotency and infertility. The most concerning aspect of the disease is the lack of any obvious symptoms. For this reason, it is often called the silent STD.

When symptoms occur they are sometimes the same or similar to that of gonorrhea, another common STD. As a result, people often confuse Chlamydia with Gonorrhea. Before dealing with the treatment options available for this infection, it is important to get a clear diagnosis.

Symptoms of Chlamydia

As already stated, the symptoms of Chlamydia might remain unnoticed for a long time or one may confuse these with the symptoms of some other diseases. Still, there are some obvious symptoms that indicate the presence of Clamydia trachomatis, the bacteria which cause the disease. The symptoms, if they become apparent, do so within one to three weeks after the bacterial infection. The symptoms are different for men and women.

For women, a slight increase in vaginal discharge and inflammation of the urinary tract are the common symptoms. An affected person might feel the urge to urinate more frequently. In addition, one might feel a moderate pain while passing urine. One might also feel pain during sexual intercourse and experience bleeding after the intercourse. The menstrual periods might become irregular. Abdominal pain and eye discomforts are also associated with the occurrence of Chlamydia.

For men, the symptoms are much easier to spot than in women. The main symptom among men is the discharge of a white, water-like liquid from the penis. If one finds regular stains or liquid marks on the underwear, one should consult a physician for further testing. Another common symptom of Chlamydia is a burning sensation at the penis while passing urine.

Treatment of Chlamydia

If you experience any of the symptoms mentioned above, you should consult a physician. Previously, almost all diagnostic procedures required a close inspection of genitals for men and vaginal area for women. While such procedures were not very painful, many people find such procedures uncomfortable. At present, there are many easy and inexpensive diagnosis options such as urine testing for detecting the presence of Clamydia trachomatis.

Chlamydia can be treated with antibiotics. The most commonly prescribed antibiotics for this disease are azithromycin and doxycycline. Azithromycin such as zithromax is normally prescribed as a single dose of 1 g. While this is slightly more expensive than the other medications, this is ideal for those who may not be able to take the medicine everyday for a week.

Doxycycline is one of the cheaper options. It has to be administered to the affected person for a course of seven days, 100 mg per day. One should take care to complete the whole course continuously without any break. If you take a break, you have to start a new course all over again.

The most important aspect here is to provide the earliest possible treatment. Not only the affected person, but his or her recent sexual partners must also undergo the diagnostic procedure. In addition, the persons must abstain from any form of sexual activity for two weeks after the treatment. Pregnant women affected by Chlamydia should take special care, as the bacteria can affect the uterus and infect the child as well.

The Effectiveness Of Revivo Herbal Tea In Treating Hiv

The HIV-1 virus infection which is responsible for AIDS is as virulent as ever and continues to evade both a cure or even a vaccine for which billions of dollars of research money has already been spent. In the meantime the treatment options though life-saving leave much to be desired in terms of their side effects and relatively high cost. Herbs, however may hold the solution….

As with conventional pharmaceuticals it cannot be said that any herb has been found that is a cure for AIDS or that can destroy the HIV virus completely, There are however compelling studies that have shown many herbal medicinals and their chemical constituents to interfere with the replication of the virus, and hundreds more than can deal with the associated symptoms and other side-effects of conventional AIDS drugs.

In one such study two researchers, one at the University of California at Davis and another at the Chinese University of Hong Kong screened 27 herbs against the HIV virus which are generally used within chinese medicine for the treatment of infections. Out of these 27, 5 almost completely stopped HIV in laboratory cells and 6 others showed significant inhibiting activity.

Enter Revivo, Revivo is a name given to the herbal formulation developed by Aconite Herbals based in South Africa and comprising the best of these 11 medicinals together with a host of other medicinals which are regarded as “assistants” in the formula that treat other symptoms of HIV infection and also reduce the side-effects of ARV therapy.

The Revivo formulation is a trademark of Aconite Herbals and contains the following medicinals:

* Arcitum Lappa
* Coix Seed
* Momordica Charantia
* Hypericum Chinensis
* Nelumbo Nucifera
* Prunella Vulgaris
* Zizyphus Jojoba

From the above medicinals Nelumbo Nucifera, Arctium Lappa and Prunella Vulgaris are among the 11 that showed significant activity against the HIV virus in the laboratory study conducted by the two researchers. (R. Shihman Chang and H.W. Yeung, “Inhibition Of Growth Of Human Immunodeficiency Virus By Crude Extracts OF Chinese Medicinal Herbs”, Antiviral Research, 9 (1988), pages 163-176.)

The same three medicinals have been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat the following:

* Infections
* Sore throat
* Lumps and nodules
* Skin rashes
* Diarrhea
* Bleeding
* Dizziness
* Pulmonary TB
* Infectious Hepatitis

The remaining medicinals have been used in Chinese Medicine for treating:

* Insomnia
* muscle spasm
* Diarrhea
* Pulmonary abscesses
* Por circulation
* Abdominal pain
* General pain

The herbs in the formula work by various means, some contain specific chemicals such as MAP30 and betulinic acid which interfere with HIV replication, others are used based on their understanding within the Chinese Medicine framework such as Coix Seed which is known as being Cool, sweet and bland and having the function of strengthening the digestion, clearing heat from the lungs and draining dampness. The framework of Chinese Medicine has been developed over a period of 2000 years and based on that empirical knowledge makes for a wonderfully effective healing methodology which has also been shown effective for HIV.

Users of Revivo report inceased CD4 counts, decreased viral loads and general decrease of symptoms such as night sweats, insomnia, pain etc. Though no full clinical studies have been conducted the results so far are encouraging and because of the low chance of side-effects with this herbal formula it comes as a recommendation from many complementary medicine practitioners to make use of such a formula to assist in the fight against HIV.

Your Garden’s Hidden Pharmacy

Many common health conditions can be remedied with a healthy lifestyle that is accompanied by the use of certain herbal remedies. While Western Medicine relies heavily on the use of prescription drugs, most practitioners of Eastern Medicine, as well as traditional naturopathic doctors and herbalists, consider natural herbs and plants to be much healthier choices. Using medicinal herbs to treat any number of ailments allows you to benefit from a synergy of complex chemical components such as antioxidants and phytonutrients,as they occur in nature. So what types of herbs contain powerful healing properties?

Ginger

Praised by Confucius, ginger has been considered the universal medicine for many years. It is gentle on the stomach and is commonly used to relieve symptoms of nausea, indigestion, fever, and infection. More advanced research suggests that it may even be used for heart health, digestive health, preventing colds and flu,and assisting in weight loss.

Thyme

This herb is considered one of nature’s most powerful antiseptics and is commonly used in certain mouthwash and decongestant products. Thyme can be added to teas and herbal drinks, where it helps relieve sore throat, cough, bronchitis, and laryngitis.

Garlic

Garlic has a number of active components, including allicin, alliinase and sulfur compounds, which contribute to its potent antibiotic, anti-viral and fungicidal properties. These assets make garlic highly effective in lowering high blood pressure, maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, and boosting the immune system.

Mint

In addition to carrying a distinct fragrant quality, mint also has the ability to settle the digestive tract, thus decreasing the severity and length of stomach aches. The herb can be added to teas, salads or eaten by itself to relieve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and hinder the growth of toxic bacteria in the stomach.

Lavender

Lavender is another fragrant herb that is used in a variety of medicinal and cosmetic products. It is largely cultivated for its natural oils which can calm nerves, alleviate headaches, and help to reduce stress.

Turning to herbal remedies for safe and natural treatments is an affordable way to maintain your health and vitality, while building your immune system and preventing many common illnesses. Not to mention leaving just one small ecological footprint or two in your garden bed.
